MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH LABORATORY
INTRODUCTION
Provision of nursing care to mother and child is an important nursing responsibility for which students are trained during their training. MCH Lab provides a learning atmosphere to the students for developing skills before performing procedures in the hospital. MCH Lab is having 900 sq ft area and is divided into two sections :- Obstetrics and Gynaecology Section and Pediatric Section.
Obstetrical lab provide students with an opportunity to learn and develop the skills essential to midwifery practice within a supportive environment. During the time spent in the laboratories students are introduced to a range of clinical skills essential for safe practice, while on clinical posting, the students have an opportunity to further develop these skills under supervision. Students are trained in laboratory under the supervision of faculty members to provide them with sufficient experience in dealing with women during the different stages of pregnancy, child birth and during post natal period. It is equipped with various models, dummies, bones, charts, instruments, equipments and mannequins of normal birth process and procedures.
OBJECTIVES
- To provide basic and advanced skill of obstetric & gynaecological nursing.
- Reinforce learning using simulation technology and related resources.
- Increase preparedness of the nursing students before introduction to hospital training.
- Provide students with the nursing skills that are necessary to care for mother and child during the physiological or pathological events.
- Provide hand on learning experience specific to course objectives as directed by the nursing curriculum.
Pediatric Lab at nursing college provides nursing students with an additional learning resource to meet their educational goals. The lab is equipped with supplies and equipments, including Pediatric and CPR mannequin. The lab provides students with a realistic, stimulated clinical environment to practice and demonstrate competency of selected nursing skills.
Clinical training in pediatric lab equips students with essential knowledge, skills and attitude needed to provide accurate, safe and comprehensive nursing care for normal child. Pediatric lab consists of Almirah which contains articles that are required to perform various procedures. The nursing students gets demonstration from their teachers in the lab and then get skills for performing care in the clinical areas. The lab also consists of dummy’s on which the procedures are also demonstrated. Different types of exhibits, posters, displaying growth charts, immunization etc are also displayed. A separate section is designated to teach students regarding selection of playful material for different age groups.

- To prepare students for handling well and sick children in a technically safe environment.
- To provide opportunity for learning and practicing various child health nursing procedures.
- To make the students informed regarding modern child care practices and guidelines.
